Over the summer holidays we completed a project at Drayton Primary School ready for the new term. Working to tight deadlines, budgets and with a strict brief we helped make the playgrounds more secure and safe for children.
A timber palisade fence was designed to provide an additional security measure between the chain link fence and the play area, which was previously bordered only by a short metal railing. This railing was short enough for children to be able to climb over and access the chain link perimeter. We built the 50-metre-long fence to 1.5m high, with reduced gaps between the panels and carefully placed horizontal supports so that children are unable to climb the fence, nor get limbs stuck whilst attempting to do so.
In addition to the fencing, we provided a 3 metre double leaf gate and a 1 metre pedestrian gate to allow access to the play area. The square top picket design sits flush with the fencing to provide a seamless appearance that’s attractive, practical and secure.
