Originally a shoe factory, the building was home to Aviva for many years before finding a new lease of life as a secondary school in 2014. As a city centre school in a historical part of the city, the outdoor spaces count a range of neighbours.
Adapting to suit the changing needs of the school, we returned to the school to clad the existing metal railings with close board fencing. Providing additional privacy and security, the astro-turfed playground and garden area is enclosed by the pressure treated timber fencing on three sides. Designed to fit with the existing metal railings, the height of the fencing was designed to fit perfectly in line with the top of the railings, so that the decorative arches can be seen over the top.
