As part of the general upgrades to the exterior of the Atlantis Tower building in Great Yarmouth, we were invited by BMA Construction Group Ltd to bring our expertise and add a cement board cladding screen at the car park level as well as other upgrades to vehicular and pedestrian gates around the site.
The Atlantis Tower is an iconic landmark on the ‘golden mile’ of Great Yarmouth seafront. Built in the 1960s as a restaurant, ballroom and publicly accessible viewing platform, for over three decades it was home to the nightclub Tiffany’s - fondly remembered by Yarmouth locals, some of whom still meet up for occasional Tiffany’s Reunion nights.
More recently, the Tower has undergone a full refurbishment with updates to the luxury apartment rooms on the upper floors making it a highly sought after destination for short lets in the seaside holiday market.
It was a real pleasure to be contributing to the upkeep of such an iconic building. The car park level is adjacent to the neighbouring rooftops so we had lovely views of the sea and sky and golden sands of Great Yarmouth while we worked.
The cement boards we used for the cladding were attached to a rust-resistant galvanised steel frame. The cladding will have a long life as cement boards will never rot and won’t need to be treated and stained like timber. They are also fire resistant and will not crack or swell with the changing elements - as even in Great Yarmouth (which with 1,536 total hours of bright sunshine per year is 16th on the list of England’s sunniest places) it is wise to defend against disappointing weather!
All in all, this was a slightly different job from our everyday fencing and gate installations, and we are very happy with the results!
